Alain de Botton was born in Switzerland in 1969 and is the author of a number of non-fiction books addressing topics of everyday life in a philosophical way. His bestselling works include How Proust can Change your Life, The Consolations of Philosophy and Essays in Love. He has also made several television documentaries and in 2008, set up The School of Life in central London, offering intelligent self-help in great topics. He is the creative director of Living Architecture, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to making modern architecture accessible to the public.
