André Balazs is a property developer and hotelier, with a portfolio that includes The Mercer in New York as well as Chateau Marmont, and The Standard properties. Balazs began his career by founding biotech company Biomatrix with his father, before moving into hospitality. He started with night-clubs and restaurants before buying his first hotel, Chateau Marmont, in 1990.
