Charmian Gooch is one of the founders and directors of Global Witness, the Nobel Peace Prize-nominated campaigning organisation, which addresses links between the exploitation of natural resources and the funding of conflict and corruption. Charmian has jointly led campaigns exposing the illegal trade in timber between the Khmer Rouge and Thai logging companies and combated conflict diamonds in 1998 following detailed investigations spanning Africa and Europe. In 2005, Charmian was presented with The Gleitsman Foundation International Activist Award.
