Owner, Hotel Santa TeresaDelort created Exclusive Hotels, a chain of boutique luxury hotels, when he was 26 and grew the business over eight years before selling it. He left France in 2005 and moved to Brazil with an ambition to create the first luxury boutique hotels in Brazil, beginning with the Hotel Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro. Opening in October 2008, it is the first five-star hotel in the city away from the beaches and recruits 50 per cent of its staff from the favelas.
