Hilty started his career at the Riverside Studios in west London before moving to the Hayward gallery in the early 1990s as a senior curator. He joined Lisson Gallery in 2008 and has also held the positions of director of arts for London Arts, and director of visual arts and literature for the Arts Council England's London office.
