Hidetoshi Nakata began his professional football career in 1995 with J League side Bellmare Hiratsuka (now Shonan Bellmare) and went on to represent Japan in three World Cup tournaments and in two Olympic games. Since retiring from football in 2006, Hidetoshi has pursued charitable work to support craft industries and agriculture in Japan. He has been editor at large of Monocle since its launch.
