As head of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Gaza, Khaled Abdel Shafi is caught up in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. Apart from heading the UNDP’s office in Gaza City, he also co-owns the city’s Al Deira hotel, which, until the outbreak of hostilities, was where journalists visiting the territory stayed.
