editorial vacancies

Monocle is seeking a travel editor to run our coverage in the magazine, deliver stories for our digital newsletters, help with the travel-related books that we produce in conjunction with Thames & Hudson and feed in stories to Monocle Radio. This is a full-time job based at our London HQ.

Monocle’s global readership is well-travelled and knowledgeable. They come to Monocle for recommendations that they can trust and for stories about places, projects and people that go beyond the usual travel-page recommendations. It’s a readership that wants to know where the best ryokan is in Hokkaido and the bolthole our editors would pick in Venice – but also what’s happening in the worlds of aviation, hotel design and restaurants. We are read by a large number of people in the industry.

We are seeking an editor who can turn in their own clean copy, help writers deliver inspiring reads and who has a global outlook. Monocle is a dynamic, fast-growing company and the successful candidate will need to be flexible with how they work and keen to be involved in all opportunities that come their way.

To apply, please send a CV and covering letter to Jack Simpson at jms@monocle.com

Monocle is seeking a full-time head of book publishing – to be based at our London offices. Monocle publishes a series of hardback books every year – these have included “Handbooks” on Spain and Portugal, a guide to the best places to swim around the world, large-format books on Japan and residential design, and a book for entrepreneurs. Produced in partnership with Thames & Hudson, our books are distributed worldwide and are a key part of Monocle’s business.

The position will involve managing a team in London and working with Monocle’s editors and correspondents around the globe to deliver titles that offer detailed information and glorious visuals. You will need to be a good editor and writer and be passionate about book publishing – you will work directly with numerous partners. And you will also know how to run a budget.

While this position would be ideal for an experienced books editor, it would also suit someone who has had a successful editing career in magazines or newspapers. You will need to be flexible with your time, and happy to travel internationally when needed. This is a job with the potential to play an important part in Monocle’s continued growth.
