Ibiza

Usually a hotspot for a livelier crowd, Ibiza is not only the house of chill-out music and beach parties (unmissable in any case), but is also host to exclusive hotels and award-winning restaurants. The balmy climate is perfect for strolling through the city’s marinas, browsing the boutiques around town or cycling the bike routes that stretch over 700km throughout the island. Whatever you do, leave enough time to catch the last sunrays from atop Ibiza’s rugged cliffs, preferably sipping on a glass of vino de la tierra, the local wine brew.

Essentials

01 Ibiza has more than 50 beaches spread across 18km of coastline. Some have the remains of buildings from ancient civilizations.
02 Olive oil is one of the island’s most important products. The typical varieties include the empeltre (locally known as Ibizan), the arbequina and the picual. The latter has the strongest flavour.
03 If you’re more into ruins than raves, visit the archeological sites in Sant Vicent, the necropolis of Puig des Molins and the Phoenician town of sa Caleta.
04 The big bang: Ibiza Rocks music festival packs some of the best rock groups in the world (performing yearly from June to September).
05 Ibiza has 300 days of sunshine a year – avoid the busier months (July and August) and explore the island during spring. The sea temperature will still be an average of 19C.

Two hour tour

01 Hire or buy a boat and take a leisurely tour of the calas at the north of the island.

02 The smaller island of Formentera is a must. Make friends with  a sailor and put out to sea to the south. Have a splash in water as clear as gin.
