Palma de Mallorca

A mix of gothic cathedrals and modern marinas, Palma de Mallorca boasts a Mediterranean majesty like no other Balearic Island. With excellent boutique hotels popping up all over the medieval city and top-notch restaurants serving fresh seafood hourly, plus 158 sandy beaches, Palma is an unmissable stop on the island-hopping itinerary.

Essentials

01 To narrow down the choice of beaches (calas), we recommend a dip in the crystal-clear water of Cala Major. Dry off with walk on the nearby promenade.
02 It isn’t just central Palma that’s nice. Take the vintage train from Plaza d’Espanya to Sóller for a day trip through orange orchards and palm trees.
03 If you feel you’ve overindulged in Mallorcan specialities, get your trainers on and head to the Llevant Natural Park, a 1.576-hectare park with eight trekking routes, surrounded by vineyards.
04 Local wines can be excellent. Look out for Binissalem DO.
05 Leave some time for culture – the Es Baluard art museum is a must.
