For edition five of the Monocle Winter Series we have a debate on arts funding at a time of austerity with Julia Peyton-Jones, director of The Serpentine Gallery in London, and hear live music from Finnish soul singer Janna.

Born and raised in Helsinki, singer-songwriter Janna released her debut, Right Now, in 2007, and featured collaborations with Quintessence's Tuomo Prättälä and Aki Haarala, and others. In 2008, she won Newcomer of the Year at the Basso Music Awards and the following year saw the launch of her new album, The Makings of Me. With a devout following in Europe, Japan and elsewhere, Janna's extraordinary four-and-a-half octave range distils a heady mixture of old-school soul with contemporary influences.
The Monocle Winter Series brings together exclusive live music from our favourite bands and informed conversation with special guests every week throughout the Christmas season.
Presented by Monocle's editor in chief, Tyler Brûlé, along with culture editor Robert Bound and editor Andrew Tuck, it's your audio travel companion over the holiday season. The Monocle Winter Series goes live every Friday at midday central European time on iTunes and right here at Monocle.com.
