4 MUSIC: GLOBAL

—Leonard Cohen, Old Ideas

Some songwriters need no introduction, but let’s introduce Leonard Cohen anyway. The 77-year-old musical maestro of Montreal and general living legend, releases his 12th album of a 40-year career on Monday. Often miscast as a miserablist, Old Ideas continues and deepens Cohen’s embrace of rye, black humour that ducks the cynicism of his many imitators. It’s a relaxing listen, yet one that demands your attention on every word. He might be getting slower, but seems to get smarter with age.

Old Ideas is released on Monday

5 FURNITURE: TOKYO
