Nine people are on trial in Stuttgart in one of three cases linked to an alleged far-right plot to overthrow the state. They face charges including high treason, attempted murder and membership of a terrorist organisation. The nine have been identified as part of the ‘Reichsbürger’ movement, belonging to the military wing of a group led by a self-styled aristocrat. The group, which originated in the 1980s, denies the legitimacy of Germany’s postwar Federal Republic and believes that the country is still under Allied occupation.
