Born in Japan and raised in Adelaide and Bangkok, Yujiro studied economics at Keio University, Tokyo, before starting a career in show business. His television credits include presenting and acting in a variety of programmes on TV Tokyo, ITV, Hunan TV, RTL and the BBC. Taniyama is also an author and filmmaker and was a candidate in the running for the position of Governor of Tokyo in the elections in April 2011.
