Over the weekend, Iran launched an unprecedented direct military assault on Israel in response to a suspected Israeli strike that killed top Iranian officials in Syria. Though there have been many years of proxy warfare, the attack marked a potential turning point in the Middle East. Israel’s war cabinet has met but has not yet announced whether a decision on its response has been reached.
